6 New Reports and Features for Advanced Customization and Insights

Here at GitPrime, we strive to help organizations understand how software teams work.

But in order for an organization to gain this level of understanding from one dashboard, we must continue to find new and better ways of presenting information, and then make that information easy to navigate.

Last year, we tripled the size of our technical teams to continue building out the world’s leading engineering intelligence platform — introducing new data sources, visualizations, integrations, and capabilities to our growing customer base. Today, we’re highlighting six recently launched reports and features that were built to help you understand even more about your team’s development process.

See code, PR, and ticket activity in the all-new Work Log

The overhauled Work Log now includes robust integrations to ticketing systems (Jira, GitHub issues, etc) and supports the newly announced Pull Requests integration, to give you a comprehensive view of all of the major artifacts that an engineer produces in a day.

The Work Log now includes visualizations across five work types:

  • Code Commits
  • Merge Commits
  • Pull Request Submissions
  • Pull Request Comments
  • Ticket Comments

With the new Work Log, you can also:

  • Hover over an engineer’s name to get a quick roll-up summarizing their contributions over a given time period.
  • Hover over any work object to get a better understanding of the context surrounding the work.
  • Click on any engineer’s day from the main report to get a chronological view of their contributions for that 24-hour period.
  • “Pin” work item details to flag those items for further review.

The Work Log is particularly helpful to understand the “shape of someone’s day” across all work types. A quick glance helps you compare someone’s present contributions to their personal norms, and get a feel for how they’re doing.

Visualize trends in the code review process with the new Submit and Review Fundamentals

The new Submit and Review Fundamentals offer a way for managers and directors to track progress across core metrics in the code review process.

These two reports were built to provide additional insight into the recently reports about the code review process (i.e., the Submit, Review, and Team Collaboration metrics). Here’s a quick overview on where the Fundamentals fit:

  1. The Team Collaboration metrics were designed to provide a high-level view of how teams are behaving in the code review process. These metrics illuminate dynamics such as bottlenecks to a pending release or code that may require additional attention. Managers use these metrics to keep a pulse on the health and productivity of the team’s review process as a whole.
  2. Once a manager gets an understanding of how things are progressing in the team’s review process, she can then drill down into the Submit and Review metrics. The Submit metrics look at how team members handle their own work in the review process, and the Review metrics look at how team members handle others’ work in the review process. These metrics show the behaviors that contribute to the broader dynamics seen in the Team Collaboration metrics.
  3. Once a manager gets a feel for her team’s ‘normal’, she can then visualize trends or set targets in the Submit and Review Fundamentals.

Navigate seamlessly between reports with the new Cross-Linking menu

Cross-Linking is a global feature amongst GitPrime reports that allows you to click on any individual’s name and jump to their metrics in any of the reports within that menu — so you can view an author’s data from one report to the next without having to adjust your filters. This shortcut allows managers to spot dynamics and move through different reports on the same granular view.

Cross-linking was built as part of a larger effort to make it effortless for customers to explore data within a given context or use case.

Visualize core individual metrics with the Player Card

With the Player Card, it’s now easy to get an understanding of the shape of someone’s day, week, or month, across all core metrics in one single view. This new report enables engineers to view their own progress at any given time, and equips team leads and managers with the ability to quickly pull up a report that would inform their 1:1s or quarterly reviews.

Customize, enhance, and connect GitPrime data to other services with our new customer API

The recently launched REST API helps customers answer specific questions and solve specialized use cases, providing a new level of accessibility and fine-grained control with information about the development lifecycle.

The new customer API includes all the major objects and allows you to export data in JSON or CSV format. Everything that you see in GitPrime is available in the API. Here are a few of examples of what you to do with this new feature:

  • Perform a deep analysis of your data. Extract data and enhance, manipulate, or combine it with information from other sources.
  • Integrate GitPrime data to your own company dashboarding tool. You can incorporate your data into existing reports or create entirely new ones. Whether it’s a collaboration hub, a reporting tool, an email service provider, or a Kanban board that you’d like to enhance with GitPrime data, it can be done with the API.
  • Connect GitPrime data to other services, like Slack. Set up automatic alerts, emails, data exports, or updates.

What you decide to do with the new API is really up to your imagination, and we’re excited to see what you come up with.

Get GitPrime Insights Delivered Straight to Your Inbox

With our new email reporting feature, you can now generate a report that includes the information you care about most, and have it sent to you and your colleagues via email on a daily, weekly, or monthly occurrence.

Here are some examples of email reports you might elect to receive:

  • If you’re an Engineer: Get a weekly report of your progress to accelerate feedback loops and get insight into your own collaboration patterns.
  • If you’re an Engineering Manager: Get a weekly snapshot of your team’s health indicators and map how metrics are trending toward or away from the norm.
  • If you’re an Executive or Manager of Managers: Get a bi-weekly email report that shows high-level progress across multiple teams, so you can track where energy is being allocated and notice when a process should be adjusted.

This feature was built as part of a larger commitment to build GitPrime to provide the information you need about your team’s software delivery lifecycle without having to switch contexts.
